Vaginal Rejuvenation

Vaginal Rejuvenation

Labiaplasty, also known as labia reduction, vaginal lip reduction, labia rejuvenation, or vaginal rejuvenation surgery, is a spectrum of surgical procedures available to cosmetically improve or restore the vaginal appearance following the hormonally induced changes of puberty, childbirth or aging. The two most common procedures are reduction labiaplasty to reduce excessively large labia minora and fat grafting to restore volume to the outer labia following the deflationary changes of menopause or substantial weight loss.

Why Labiaplasty?

Many women are born with large, thick or irregular labia; others develop this condition after childbirth, or aging. Enlarged labia minora are uncomfortable and can cause embarrassment and a loss of self-esteem. Chronic irritation can develop when wearing tight clothing. Discomfort often occurs during exercise, intercourse or other physical activity.

How can it help?

Labiaplasty offers both physical and psychological satisfaction. It can enhance the appearance of the outer vagina, giving you greater confidence and self-esteem. Women whose labia become irritated and painful will often find relief after surgery.

Labiaplasty offers solutions to large labia in several ways, including:

  • Improves the appearance of the vagina and vulva
  • Reduces discomfort caused by clothing
  • Reduces discomfort during intercourse and exercise
  • Boosts self confidence

Procedure Information

  1. How long does the procedure take?
Labiaplasty takes less than one hour. Your surgery is performed in our Accredited Ambulatory Surgical Suite. The decision for anesthesia will be based on the requirements of your specific procedure and considerations of your preference as well as your surgeon's. At the Plastic Surgery Center, your safety and comfort are very important.
  2. Where will my surgery be performed?
Labiaplasty is done on an outpatient basis with light sedation or general anesthesia. Because your safety is our first concern, our surgeons always use board certified anesthesiologists to ensure your surgery is as safe as possible. Your surgeon will also give you certain preoperative care instructions. While we have included some on our website, they are not a substitute for your physician's instructions.
  3. Labiapasty Recovery Time and Expectations
You may rest in the comfort of your own home the day of the surgery, and you can expect some mild discomfort and swelling. You may return to work within a few days to one week, depending upon your activity level. Sexual activity usually can resume six to eight weeks after the labiaplasty surgical procedure. You may resume exercise approximately four weeks after the surgery. Intercourse/tampon use is restricted for four weeks.
